Greg Wood Orange Park, FL | Please note "LS" does not mean 'Loening Scout' but instead it's a non military designation for 'Loening Seaplane'. As the most respected author, Mr.Peter Bowers, has so exactly explained "in the years 1917 throught part of 1922 the USN had no formal designation system and aircraft were operated using civil names and model numbers." The LS-1 belongs in a list of USN aircraft that do not have a a standardized / formal designation for yers 1917/1922. The other aircraft in this same 'non-designation status' should and will be pointed out as people read and write more.
