The F-4K (British designation Phantom FG1) was actually based on th F-4J (although originally planed to be based on the F-4B) as was the F-4M (Phantom FGR2) purchased by the RAF.
The photograph submitted by Guy E. Franklin of Montgomery shows an FG1 that went sirectly into service with the RAF due to Royal Navy carrier cut backs. It is shown in the colours of No 43(F) Squadron and would have been based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland for the duration of its service.
43 Squadron flew its last Phantom sortie in 1989 prior to receiving the Panavia Tornado F-3 which are still in service but are due to be replaced by the Eurofighter Typhoon in the next few years. 12/27/2007 @ 00:26 [ref: 19060]
