I was stationed at Cecil Field, VF102, 1955-1957 we flew the F2H4 series,,slightly under powered but a very stable aircraft. Two different times (1 aboard ship and once at base) I lost an engine. The landing aboard ship with one engine was a little hairy the other on land was a long straight away to a landing.Mcdonnell made one heck of good aircraft.

I was in VF(AW) 4 in Quonset Point Rhode island in 1959. I was in supply and transfered the last of our planes, I was told, to the reserves. We were told we were the last active squadron in the Navy, flying Banshees.

I served with VF-171(the Navy's 1st jet squadron), CAG-17 aboard USS Franklin D Roosevelt (CVA-42) as an Aviation Structural Mechanic operating F2H-4 Banshees from early 1956 until the squadron was decommissioned in March (?)1958 and we were absorbed into VF-101 and then merged with FAETULANT at NAS Boca Chica, FL to become the 1st RAG squadron for F4D Skyrays and F3H-2M,2N,&2 Demons. Our CO was Wm Laliberte, and our CAG was CDR Jack Dewenter if I remember correctly. Tail marking was "R" in those days. Fond memories! I have lots of 35mm photos and a keen memory of shipmates from those days if anyone is doing historical documentation. Respond to: LDOUSNRET@mchsi.com.

During the period of 1950-54 VF 171 (CAG17) were proudly known as the "Scremen Deamons." When did the name "Aces" come along.

The F2H-3M sitting on the floor at the aviation meusium in Pensacola is from my old squadron VF-92. We were transitioning to the F3H-2M Demon when the squadron was given the task of deploying with USS Yorktown CVS-10. 4 AC 6 Pilots and 40 enlisted as VF 92 Det. N . I made that deployment , the last by the F2H Banshee. We lost a plane and the pilot somewhere off Washington State during Carrier Quals in a squal at night. The Pilot was LTJG Peter J. Onkals. I was the PC. We deployed in Sept. 1958 and returned in May 1959. The sqd was preparing to deploy with the F H Demon. I went to J-71 school and F3H school, made lot of carrier quals with VF92, and just before we were to deploy ,I got orders to VX-4.----I liked the Demon, and was proud of my Demon Doctor patch I got at school.

for David Duke: I arrived for duty in Fall, 1957. VC-62 had changed names to VFP-62, and the last F2H-2P was being transferred out. Tail code from PL to GA. I was on Det.33 USS Intrepid for two Carib and two Med cruises. 1959 with F9F-8P Cougars and 1960 with F8U-1P Crusaders, tail code CVG-6 AF.

I should have answered earlier about the Marine F2H-3 and the F2H-4. In 1953 and later there were 2 squadrons of F2H-3's at MCAS EL Toro and two squadrons of F2H-4's at Cherry Point. Don't ask me why it was like that but depending where you were would depend on seeing the -3 or the -4 versons. I first flew a F7F-1 at Cherry Point a few months after WWII, January 1946. I understand that the F7F's did not make it to combat during WWII.

Does anyone has any information on the F-2H4 Banshee?
I am modelling the plane for a Flight Sim game called Strike Fighters: Project One.
I already have the plane in the game but I would like to close some technical details.
I bought a copy of the Flight manual but it does not have any aerodynamic charts. I am also looking for the drawings of the plane if they are available.
And any information on the plane's active duty like Squadron name, some tail codes (letters, numbers), etc for some of the paint schemes.
Thanks
