Bob Cherry , CO | Hi. I'm trying to locate a photo or accurate rendition of the nose art of my dad's P-47 Thunderbolt that he flew with the 56th/62nd during WWII. The P47 LM-I and was Ser No 275074 and the nose art was of the cartoon character Joe Carioca and was titled Eradicator.
I've been searching for years on this and if you could help me in anyway - including telling me where else I can search, it would be greatly appreciated. Please E-mail me if you have any info.
Thanks! 07/17/2005 @ 17:21 [ref: 10775] |
Rich , OTH | Hello, I am trying to gather information about two aircraft which I have models of. They were from the 61st FS, 56th FG based at Boxted, England. The first aircraft was flown by Capt.Boleslaw Michael Gladych, HV-M #421127 \"Pengie V\" and the other, Capt.Witold Lanowski, HV-Z #421108. The kit instructions refer to an overall dark blue colour scheme, however I have read elsewhere that it was more purple in colour, If anyone has any information on the actual colour schemes of these aircraft could you please e-mail me. Also any photographs or images of general wear and tear, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. 03/21/2004 @ 22:20 [ref: 7028] |

I would love to hear from x-members of the 56th Fighter Group. I've recently heard from Vic Bast, Ben Cathers &
Col. Klibbe. All are well & doing okay!!! Russ. 07/10/2003 @ 16:09 [ref: 6566] |
Russ Kyler Cedar Park,, TX | At 34,500 feet, 28ooRPM, 75"Hg and WEP. The "JUG" would indicate 507 MPH. I know 'cause I was there. Some pilots were pulling 3000 RPM's & 85"Hg. & it was an awsome machine. Republic ran tests at 3600 RPM's (Mainfold pressure unknown)for 250 hours with no break-down of components. That P/W R-2800-57 was one TOUGH engine.
Sincerely
Russ Kyler. 11/09/2002 @ 15:52 [ref: 6047] |
Nathanael Wilde vancouver, WA | P-47M's engine was the P&W R-2800-57(C) rated at 2800hp, not 2100. At 25000ft its max speed was 453mph, but at 30000ft its max speed was 470mph. This was the fastest American fighter to see action in the war. (No, the P-51H did not see action. :) 11/05/2000 @ 11:25 [ref: 998] |
