Ed Solter Riverside, CA | Seversky BT-8 was the the first all metal enclosed cockpit trainer for the USAAC.But the cadets soon learned that it had it's quirks. It was prone to ground looping due to it's narrow landing gear. Also the underpowered 400hp engine was not quite enough to pull you out of a steep dive or if you got into trouble.Only 30 were produced--none survive today. 11/07/2005 @ 17:15 [ref: 11643] |
Matt Mt. Vernon, WA | When the first BT-8 arrived at Randolph Field The cadets 1934 or 1935, were excited. On the back of the photos that I sent , The Cadet Writes, "Boy, its arrived." They parked The BT-2 Trainer side by side for comparison and put the BT-8 in the hanger to go over the finer points. I also have a photograph of these two Trainers, parked side by side the same day in the same photo so the Cadets could compare them. 05/03/2005 @ 01:25 [ref: 10097] |
