Being an air controller (ASTAC) of these fine aircraft, the 60B is one awesome bird. The systems integration between helo and bird make our job on the surface side so simple thanks to the operation varity that the Bravo can perform. My hats off to the makers!

8yrs operating and maintaining SH-60B's (1988 - 1996.
All 8 assigned to HSL-42. Lead Tron/LPO Det 1 Gun Slingers
in USS San Jacinto CG-56 on her maiden cruise (Med/Black
Sea), Lead Tron/LPO Det 2 Renagade Tribe in USS Boone FFG-28
for back to back LEO Ops, Det Leading Chief Det 10 Stinking Bastards in USS John Hancock DD-981 to Red Sea/Persian Gulf.

Typical helo; a million parts loosely flying in formation requiring many maintenance man hours per flight hour, but all in all a great aircraft. The Navy got more than a bang for their buck with this one.

With any luck I will be back maintaining the Seahawk again in the near future as the east coast RAG Squadron (HSL-40) is contracting out some of the maintenance. Should know in the next week or so.

An excellent machine that always got me there and back. I enjoyed every flight, every x-country, and all the people
that helped produce it, maintain it, train the aircrews, train the groundpounders and put it in the air.

For those who would like to give this a try, this could be bragging rights and I do have the answer.

"Who were the folks that made up the first all Navy flight
crew in an SH-60B?
"Where was the location?"
"What was the date?"

Turn it on, works great and lasts a long time!
I've been with the SH60B since its introduction to the Navy in 1983. I was lucky enough to be selected for the initial team (factory school at Pax River Md) and I've been with it ever since, bouncing from different units in San Diego. Personally I think the Navy got way more than what they bargained for. Initially it was designed for Anti-Submarine Warfare and a secondary role of Anti-Surface Warfare. It was great at chasing subs in the "good ole days" but it's even better now at surface warfare.
What a great machine, I'll miss it, I'm retiring in May

Thanks
