To Sgt Clint Davis of OR,

I kindly suggest a review of AR 70-50, Example A3.1 and Table A3.2, this regulation determines the naming convention for all DOD aircraft. I think you will find that the designations "U" and "H" may be used to designate any rotary wing aircraft, iregardless of branch of service affiliation, whose modified mission profile is "Utility". A relatively recent deviation from this regulation is why the U.S.Army UH-60Q Medical Helicoper was redesignated as HH-60A. It may also be of intrest to know that the designation of "C" as in CH-47 or CH-46 for example, means "Transport" and not "Cargo". Pretty interesting huh? Thank you for your service to our country Sgt.

Mike,
Just some professional advice...you lose a lot of credibility when you can't spell and use poor grammar.

In respose that the UH-60M is a dream to fly...... Im sorry but its more of a nightmare! it constantly has electrical problems... fms controlers like to "freeze up" in flight the hover hold flys like a brand new flight school student...we have coined the term sikorski reset for the damn thing because whenever we have a problem with it we have to tun it completely off.. remove all ac power and start it up again! its a great concept and will be a great aircraft someday but its not there yet! not to mention the IR searchlight is completly unusable under nvgs! oh and to whoever decided it would be a good idea to wire the standby compass to the secondary light switch... what were you thinking!!! you seriously want me to turn my cockpit lighing up to illuminate the mag compass??

The UH60M is the most sophisticated Blackhawk derivative ever built. It has a full auto-pilot, 701D engines, moving map multi-functional displays and is a rotory wing aviator's dream to fly. The MU is a newupgraded version with fly-by-wire technology still being developed by Sikorsky. It uses composite technology along with a CAAS cockpit and maximizes the already awesome capabilities of the Mike.

Actually there is an UH-60M and the even newer UH-60MU. The M is an upgraded A/L and the MU is an upgraded M. The MU has different engines, rotors and the CAAS avionics. There are also some fuselage differences. The MU is not in production yet.

UH-60m is the new redition of the blackhawk in a fly by wire system. Not sure where anyone has procured any other info that is listed here.

The USAF does not have a HH-60, it is a MH-60G helicopter. The orginial aircraft, the HH-60A/D was called the "Night Hawk" and was a test aircraft out at Edwards AFB. The aircraft was suppose to be all that the US Army 160th has now. In fact, the Gullled Wing fuel system (EFS) with outside rescue hoist (#2 Engine area), as well as the 125 Gal. Interior aux. fuel system, with all the switched and valves over both fuel cells, was a nightmare during our testing at Edwards. IBM was the prime system intergerator, as well as partnerships with GE, Sikorsky and others. The first aircraft, T-1, flew out in Calif with metal 230 gallon exterior fuel tanks that were filled with water during some of the testing.

Additional testing was completed in Fla. When the program died, the aircraft was moth-balled in the corner of a hanger out at Warner-Robbins, Ga. I know cause I was on the test program from 1984 to the end in 1987.

The UH-60M Blackhawk, like all "UH" aircraft, is a U.S. "Army" helicopter, not "Air Force", as is stated on this web site. The Air Force has a different version called the HH-60G Pavehawk (mid air re-fueling, camo paint scheme, air foce symbol on tail cone).

This aircraft is just starting production, and I don't think any have actually been delivered to the Army yet.
