I have a lot of photoes of VA-116's 1957 cruise with the
F7U-3M's. I was an AE3 at the time. I loved that aircraft.
I was probably, the only one who has changed the
starter/generator on an engine while it was still in the
airframe as soon as the engine was shut down and in summer time in El Centro. I just don't know how to send the photoes to you.

I had come from Moffett Field to VF-51 at Miramar and then sent back to train to work on the F7U-3M at Moffett. I guess this makes me a plank owner of VA-116. By the way the airplane had no tail just two vertical stabilizers and it had two not one engines. I left the Navy just after our 3 weeks qualification cruse on the USS Hancock. As A AM2 I spent many nights on the high power flight line with no hearing protection. I took this to the VA and got a 40% disability plus hearing aids. If any one has the same problem contact me at drobr2000@yahoo.com and I will guide you through the procedure. Oh and plus ringing in the ears that has never stopped since 1956.

In my previous comment I forgot to add that in the 50s and 60s NAS Olathe was located near Olathe, Kansas. Near the actual town of Olathe they also had a Skyray on static display, but on 7-8 foot concrete pedestal. Sadly both planes are long gone now. Again....any clues out there?

As a previous entry stated a static F7U was on display at the Olathe Air Park near Olathe, Kansas. It was amazingly intact but neglected. Anyone from Olathe area know where it is now?

I am with the Vought Aircraft Heritage Foundation (VAHF)group of the Vought Aircraft Industries Retiree Club (VAIRC). See our web site www.voughtaircraft.com/heritage and see the special work our volunteers are doing to restore one of each Chance Vought Company designed and manufactured aircraft.

We have scratch built an VE-7 Bluebird, the first aircraft to land and take off of a carrier in 1917. We have restored an F8U-A and an RF8U recon version, the first Navy supersonic fighters, an A7U-B and the only Regulas II reuseable missile in the world. Our current projects are the F4U Corsair, the F6U Pirate and the V-173 Flying Pancake. We would like to restore for static display an F7U Cutlass. If anyone knows where we might find one for restoration please call me at home 972-937-5896 or rongriffith@sbcglobal.net Our office is open on Tuesday and Thursdays at 972-946-4054.

Thank you for your attention.

around 1958 a cutlass made an unscheduled landing on the new york state thruway and was towed to a shopping plaza and put on static display.i believe this was a naval reserve aircraft from the niagra falls area.anyone know the story on this? as an 11 year old kid,i was overjoyed at any opportunity to go to the plaza and explore a real navy jet-made my mind up then i was gonna join the navy and get into aviation.

Looking for friends from VA-116, Miramar NAS. Had two close buddies, Ray Rinaldi and Mitch Triscarie (spelling?).
Ray left the USS Hancock to go to PR school. We are old but not dead yet.

The F7U at NAS Olathe was used as an engine test bed along with a B-45. The F-86s out of Grandview used to jump it then find out they could not take it!
