I worked with the F8 Crusader's of VFP 63, from 11/61 to 5/64 and again from 4/71 thru 6/73. I got to knew the aircraft pretty well and travelled a great deal of the time. I started as a photoline tech and worked my way up to Det. Leading Chief. I thought I had a tough time until I deployed as Det. Maintenance Chief. Then the work really started. The second trip as Maintenance Chief ended in Sesebo, Japan, when I returned to VFP-63 for release from active duty. I was a Chief Photographer who had not worked in a photo lab in over 12 years. I loved every minute I spent working on the Crusader. She was a reliable aircraft.
