The Navy Wright NW-1 was not a trainer. It was a joint Navy and Wright undertaking to build a unique sesquiplane racer for the 1922 Pulitzer Trophy race. The main plane was located mid fuselage and the sesquiplane was arranged at the level of the top of the (streamlined) wheel "spats" and running left/right, supported by N shaped struts as well as supporting the outer portion of the span of the upper wing. It was a single seat open cockpit plane and was powered by a liguid-cooled Vee engine - not certain of the engine make. There was also an NW-2 and one source I have encountered says that there were four of this type but I have been unable to run that down.
