I was a crewchief on both birds but flew 554 more. Flew it in the Battle of Kontum Eastertide Offensive where it was quite effective as a tank destroyer. We killed 24 tanks during the battle mainly Russian T-54 and PT-76. We also knocked out other targets such as trucks and missile launching trucks. Several drawbacks were No night vision and no range finder. If we would have had night vision we would have scored several more kills. Also the NUH-1B was very underpowered. During hot days with a crew of 3 we were limited to 4 missiles instead of six due to density altitude. Would have been much better on a Mike Model. Other then that the first Airborne test of the XM-26 TOW was a success.

The NUH-1B was an UH-1B modified with the XM-26 TOW missile system. At least two were used in combat (serial numbers were 62-12553 and 62-12554). See the Battle of Kontum site (http://thebattleofkontum.com/claw.html) for crew details and kill records) Also see 1st Combat Aerial TOW Team.
