My father (LCDR) Raymond Andreason flew the SB2C Helldiver with carrier air group 12 aboard the USS Randolph CV 15 during WW II. He flew combat during the invasions of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and carrier stikes on mainland Japan. He had to make an emergency landing on Yontan Airfield on Okinawa after being hit by AA fire. The airfield had just been captured by our forces. He always thought the Helldiver was a big tough bird to fly and only had kind words for it. "It brought me home alive."

I remember the SB2C well. I worked on them at the A&R hanger at NAS Jax and also at the flight test hanger. Then flew as aircrewman abosrd the USS Leyte CV-32.
