I was assigned to the 1867 FCS as a flight inspection technician (A30471) in July 1971. Flew on the C-140 and the 2 EC-47s until I departed Clark AB, PI to go to RGAFB MO in Oct 1973. One of my best tours in the Air Force. I loved dragging ass over Viet Nam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. It was some beautiful country and we were too stupid to realize that all we did in addition to our normal job of navaids and radar certifications was troll for ground fire. In late 1977 RGAFB was closed for active duty and the squadron was reassigned to Scott AFB, IL I continued to fly on the C-140s (tail # 958, 959, 960 & 962) until I was reassigned from MAJCOM Flight Inspection Superintendent to Korea.

I was a Flight Inspection Technician at Clark (1867th FCS) in 71 and 72 on the C-140's. At R-G AFB, Mo.(1866th FCS) from 72 to 74. Tinker AFB, Ok. (OL "A" 1866th FCS) from 74 to 75. Back to the 1866th at R-G from 75 to 77. Moved the Squadron to Scott in 77 and then stayed at Scott until 80 when I went to OTS. Started Flight Inspection as a Staff Sgt. in 71 then went from MSgt. to SMSgt. to 2 Lt. in 53 days in 1980.

My first assignment out of Aircraft Radio School was with the 1867th FCS at Clark AB Philippines Aug 68 thru Oct 70. As a young airman I was sent TDY to Korat Thailand and Phan Rhan Vietnam numerous times. At the time I was on flying status and flew what they called O1A missions low approaches and exits to every airport, airfield, cleared path in SE Asia. At that time there were 4 C-140A and 2 EC-47D aircraft. The C-140A's were TDY'd to Korat and the EC-47D to Phan Rhan. From each base they would then fly to Vietnam and other SE asia bases to conduct ILS, Glideslope, Tacan and communications checks. Because I was an A1C and my immediate supervisor was a Msgt (the only two in the shop)I got to go TDY. Out of neccessity I learned to work on nearly every system on these two aircraft TDY. It was a great time and assignment in my career with a lot of great people

I submitted the last squadron picture of 1867 FCS Clark AFB Philippines. I was lucky enough to be the mechanic on crew that brought A/C 95959 back to the States, August 1974 (Nixion resigned while back home). Saigon fell, Kiddie airlift, bases in Thailand close, A/C 95958 goes back to US along with the people of 1867 FCS.I was there from 6/6/73 till the end of September 1975. In picture I am back row 3rd in from left.I loved A/C 958 & 959 the people and my time with 1867 FCS. I am trying to upload the names of all in picture,it didn,t,want to take yet.

It was an honor to command the 1867th Facility Checking Squadron at Clark Field from June 1965 to June 1967.During this period the squadron received two Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards. I was especially proud of our maintance personnel who maintaned an aircaft in commission rate which hovered around 90%.(The standard was 70%). Our flight crews, although subject to frequent aircraft battle damage, recorded a perfect accident free performance.
