FLT LINE OPERATIONS, AIR FORCE & COAST GUARD C-130 A and B
Models 1965-1970. Loved the power and still miss it.
Thank the Marine Corp for sending me to: Allison Eng. School, Hamilton Prop. School, KC-130F Fam. School, and KC-130F Flt. Engineers School. Made fair money on this back ground in civilian life 01/13/2011 @ 07:22 [ref: 35496] |
Mike H. , MS | Had 3 tours with 252 (between Jan. '67 and Apr. '76) as a Radio Operator/Loadmaster on the F-Model. Great memories of the old bird. Many flight hours on 798. One time, I was part of a flight of 3 - 789, 798 & 897, flying from Cherry Point to El Toro. Our call sign at the time was Otis, and the first ground control station got confused between Otis 798, Otis 789 and Otis 897. Our calls signs got changed immediately to Otis 1, Otis 2 and Otis 3. 12/25/2010 @ 17:40 [ref: 35023] |
Darren Orlando, FL | Stationed at Cherry point 90-94 with 253. Powerplants, still have great memories from being there. 03/14/2010 @ 09:55 [ref: 25879] |
Mary , WA | Thanks to Mark Jariabko for correcting the Cherry Point, S.C. mistake. It's North Carolina for sure & my birth place. Dad retired in 1971 & loved the KC-130's, it's quite a plane. Thanks Cherry Point for all the memories too! 03/22/2009 @ 11:27 [ref: 23994] |
NATOPS1 , AR | 572 is "Older" but there were delays and 573 was delivered first... 03/16/2009 @ 04:18 [ref: 23960] |
Jim Martin Marietta, GA | Hey Kevin, hope you check back in!
I worked on the Fs (& 4R models we had) at Chery Point from 92-97. About half my time was at 252 & half at 253. 246 and 808 or "BOB" always stand out in my mind. The crazy part was we were in the middle of ASIP when I checked in, so no 2 A/C were the same. 02/07/2009 @ 14:21 [ref: 23668] |
David Sidwell Cincinnati, OH | It's great to stumble upon other Marine Herk mechanics on the internet. I was a Raider from 02- 08, getting to work on the legacies, and see the J's come in. The J's just don't have the soul that the F's and R's had. I've seen pictures of BOO at Davis Monathan and it broke my heart. At least we'll be able to visit 798 down at Pensacola, I was fortunate enough to get to do it's last daily before heading to the museum. Semper Fi all. 01/08/2009 @ 18:28 [ref: 23444] |
Vern , GA | In reply to "There has been lots of talk about the "retirement" of the Marine Corps oldest KC-130F out of VMGR-152. That aircraft being 147573.
My question is: Why isn't 147572, same squadron, the oldest KC-130F? I would think that 147572 was manufactured prior to 147753. Am I wrong?
10/08/2008 @ 21:59 [ref: 22811]"
Yes 147573 was the oldest KC-130F in the Marine Corps inventory. 572 was scheduled to be the first delivered but rumor has it that it caught fire on the flight line during testing and was delayed. Therefore, makeing 573 the first delivered and oldest in the inventory. I hope this helps clear things up for you. 01/08/2009 @ 04:16 [ref: 23441] |
