Steven Beeny Irvine, CA | Hello all,
I am writing a book about the Canberra (B-57) in worldwide service, and am looking for men like yourselves that either flew or maintained this classic aircraft. I would love to ask you questions for the book and include your stories, and any photos you might have.
If you are interested in contributing, please email me at:

This is very real project that I have been working on for several years and have air and ground crews from all over the world telling their stories.
Regards to all,
Steve 12/30/2012 @ 07:56 [ref: 67452] |

Glenn Wilder Grove, OK | I was stationed YAB Japan with the 3rd FMS. We supported the 8th, 13th and 90th Bomb Squadrons with the B57B and C and the 6091st TRS with the RB57A. When I returned to the US I was stationed at KAFB NM with the 1211 Test Squadron (Sampling) / 58th WRS. We had B57B, C, D and later F. 12/23/2009 @ 13:16 [ref: 25463] |
Donald Moore LV, NV | I was an electrician on in the 4758th DSES at Biggs Field, Texas from 1962 then to Holloman AFB, NM until 1968. Great aircraft. I flew in a B model out of Eglin AFB in 1968 during night surveilance testing. Early in the 60's our B models were rehashed and sent to Vietnam. They were replaced with A models. We had a bunch of A model ECM planes, 1 C model, and 1 E model B-57. When I returned from my overseas tour in 72 I was stationed at Davis-Montham AFB in Tucson. There in the boneyard I found my old outfit. I shed a tear for my inactivated B-57s. 03/22/2009 @ 13:29 [ref: 23996] |

Jack Murphy Miramar, FL | I was a Weapons mechanic with the 765th bomb Wing (L) at Hill AFB Utah. Also was on the arming-dearming crew at Wendover AFB Utah/Nevada we stayed in the Old Base Hospital. Loaded the bomb and took a lot of ejection seats out of the back seat to get the Shoran Reciever out. Went TDY with the 57 to Eglin main base for a Firepower demo for congress critters. We got grounded there due to the SNATCH UNIT was never cocked at the factory thats why so many aobs got killed bailing out of them. Changed a lot of bomb doors installing the T63 pracrice shape. Did a lot of Toss Bomb Practice at Wendover.
I absolutely adored it. Any panel you used was painted black outside and bright white inside. Getting the canopy open was a monster pump your tail off. 500 pumps to move the darn thing. Eventually 1 Crew Chief built a portable electric pump then life was easyer. Was part of the Advance Team to open up Blytheville AFB Arkansas. We had the 764th White tails the 765th Yellow tails and the 766th red tails. left in 1957 for Wheelus AFB Libya. I remeber opening the tail access door to put new starter carts in at Wendover and warned the fire guys about the black powder carts smoke . The pilot did a double engine start and the fire dept chased them to the end of the runway. Sometimes people dont listen. I hated to leave my guys but the town was a heck hole. The Ark NG versus the high schools happened then. Thanks for the web site 08/19/2008 @ 13:18 [ref: 22495] |

Ken Meronek Benbrook, TX | Electrician in the 35th FMS at Phan Rang from Dec 67 to Dec 68. Easiest aircraft to learn that I worked on. We would parallel generators at EOR or the trim pad running the engines at 100%. Some of the guys that came from Clark with the aircraft - Don Cucchi, Frank Tedesco, Ken Simpson. I'm in touch with Ken and Don. 07/07/2008 @ 04:48 [ref: 21780] |
Jerry Black Lutz, FL | I was an engine mechanic with the 822nd Bomb Sqdn at Laon AB, France from Feb 1955 until July 1959. The B-57 has always been my favorite aircraft because of ease of maintenance, at least on engine maintenance. I was fortunate enough to be one of the few that was selected to fly in 1957 for a period of seven months. Most of the flight time was on test hops. Now that was an experience that I have never forgotton! Bye-Bye Black Birds... 06/23/2008 @ 12:07 [ref: 21583] |
