Any one remember the 57th Helicopter Battilion at Fort Ord
back in 1958-1959? Flew I believe was the H21-called the banna; a small Helie [2 seater] and the Otter fixed wing Big Engine in front, also the small plane believe it was called the T19 or L19=Piper Club or T-Craft.

Understood they Gyrated from Fort Ord to a base in Germany in later 1959.

While driving around the old WWII Deming Army Air Field in Deming, NM in March, 2005, I saw several H-21 fuselages stacked behind an enclosed area. I assumed they were waiting to be scrapped. Didn't take a picture...wish I had. I had a couple of flights in a CH-21C while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington in '60 & '61.

I arrived at Ft. Richardson, Alaska in Dec 66, assigned to the TMHC(South) aviation co. We had 19 CH-21's, all were polished aluminium with red bands except one with floats that was painted white. When I left in May 68 we were down to only 8. Our first Hueys had arrived a few months earlier.

My Dad, Calvert E. Day, flew in a Piasecki as a crew chief while stationed in Labrador, Canada with the Royal Canadian Air Force (about 1947). I later flew as a crew chief in CH-53A & D's while stationed at MCAS(H)Tustin, CA with the US Marines (1977).

I would like to verify through any ARMY personell the names of any H-21 companys that served in Vietnam. Possibly the 8th, 93rd and the 57th. I was in the 93rd and heard it was changed to the 57th. THANKS JW
