Republic XF-12A 'Rainbow'
|
Robert Woller Vancouver, WA | I first read about the XF-12A Rainbow in an Aviation History edition and immediately fell in love with it. It is such an elegant looking plane; its lines are beautiful. Someone had rocks in their head when they made the decision to use it for target practice. I agree, Republic should have bought it back and sent it to the AF museum. Unfortunately, post WWII mentality was to destroy and disgard aircraft no longer deemed needed. 03/07/2010 @ 14:21 [ref: 25844] |
Major Henricks Fredericksburg, IN | The whole idea, of use-ing this beautiful plane, as a target, is one of the more stupid ideas, of the federal government! This plane should have been sent to the AF museum. I wish that Republic had purchased it back, from the government. 04/02/2009 @ 10:18 [ref: 24060] |
Mr. Gail S. Dow Marysville,, WA | Was passing thru Tinker in July of 1951. ( C-47 ) As we were re-fueling I noticed The "Rainbow" parked on the flightline.
It was very dirty like it had muddy water splashed on the underside. Made me very curious where it had been, and maybe where it had overflown.
This was an impressive and beautiful aircraft under any circumstances. -- GSD -- 05/17/2008 @ 13:19 [ref: 20895] |
