Patrick Doyle , MN | I'm doing research on this plane because I will be buying a radio controled DC 3 model very soon and I've gotta say this airplane is a beauty. It's been fun looking at all the photos from back in the day. And of course along the way finding other gems, like old photos of my childhood favorite Republic Airlines. And since I'm a lifelong Minnesotan it's nice to see the red tail of a Northwest plane. The DC 3/ C 47 must be a real sight in person. 03/07/2014 @ 11:46 [ref: 68406] |
BILL BROOMHALL DAYTON, OH | THE AIR FORCE C-47 I CREWED AT CLARK AFB IN 1953, WAS BUILT IN I943,TAIL NUMBER 349219,NOW IS FLYING IN NEW ZEALAND WITH OVER 43,000 HOURS ON THE AIRFAME.
WHILE AT CLARK, WE WERE THE USAF OVERHAUL DEPOT FOR ALL GOONEYBIRDS IN THE FAR EAST. PLUS WE DID ANNUAL INSP'S ON OTHERS ASSIGNED TO VARIOUS PLACES, LIKE AUSTRAILIA, OTHER EMBASSY AIRCRAFT. THE CIVILIAN DESIGNATION FOR THIS PLANE IS ZK-DAK,CHECK IT OUT ON THE INTERNET,INTERESTING FACTS AND NUMBERS. WE ALSO HAVE A C-47 ON DISPLAY AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE USAF HERE NEAR DAYTON OHIO,PLUS ANOTHER 300 USAF PLANES THERE. PLAN TO SPEND 2 DAYS OR SO TO SEE THIS BEAUTIFUL FACILITY, WE HAVE 17 ACRES UNDER ROOF AT THE MUSEUM. CHEK IT OUR AT "NATIONALMUSEUM.AF.MIL 11/28/2009 @ 07:49 [ref: 25346] |
Arklight Las Vegas, NV | Does anyone have any info about an Alaska airline started in the late 70s early 80s by two brothers and their dad? They started with two DC3/C47/R4D aircraft, flying fresh seafood to the lower 48; I saw one of their planes parked here, at McCarran, for 3-4 days. I thought it was Alaska Air, but haven't been able to turn up anything that matches with the search engine; the plane was painted (hull?) grey; this was twenty years ago or so. If you recognize the airline from my poor description, you can email me at: Arklight99@aol.com, and thanks in advance. 07/04/2009 @ 13:57 [ref: 24279] |
Arklight Las Vegas, NV | Shelton;
I used to fly Florida ('Treetop') Airlines when they had DC-3s and offered specials at $5.00 to Miami for the first so many passengers, but coming back, if you weren't at the front of the line, you paid full one way fare to get back to Sarasota. Lotta fun. Anyway, what would your service be? Flight seeing might be good, but aren't the towns 'round where you live pretty well served already? An interesting idea; let me know how you come along.

alan Barbers Point, HI | Ross Page from Illinois, I read your comments about the VR 21 aircraft at Barbers Point. Very interesting. I am sitting in Hangar 110 ( the old VR 21 hangar) as i write this email. BPNAS closed on July 3 1999, but we have a small museum here. Do you have any pictures or other info you would like to provide? thx, alan 02/14/2009 @ 01:42 [ref: 23717] |

Ross Page Herrin, IL | There were DC-3's at the base in Barbers Point in Hawaii when I was stationed there at VR-21 in 1966 to 68. It was the most amazing plane I have ever seen fly. One day I was on the tarmack and saw one coming in over the end of the runway at great height and I thought it was going to keep going but to my amazment it stopped in midair and dropped straight down and landed at the end of the runway. If no one has ever seen this you have missed out. I was told that it was training for landing on short runways in Vietnam. It was great to see it. What a great plane. 04/27/2008 @ 14:18 [ref: 20733] |
Shelton Decatur, AL | I am a major DC-3 Fan. Would love to know if anyone thinks that there would be enough interest to start a small (2 plane)DC-3 airline in the southeast. Would have to be started from scratch. People are tired of higher and higher regular airline prices. I believe this wouel start a new trend in airlines..smaller, more personal, less exspensive, more style. Any comments? 04/24/2008 @ 09:56 [ref: 20705] |
