Joe Johnson , CA | I don;t know much about it, but the F-8E crusader is by far my favorite aircraft, with the SR-71 blackbird a close second. 02/27/2006 @ 21:10 [ref: 12646] |
Jphn W. Bradford Jr , CO | Was my dream for several years to fly one. My chance finally came in '69 wheb I went to F8 transitional training at NAS Miramar. When you lit that hard-light AB you had a tiger by the tail! Is still my favorite fighter, but was like having a good-looking, mean girlfriend - if something went wrong, get your hands over your butt! 01/10/2005 @ 18:55 [ref: 9105] |
Jack DeNigris St.Louis, MO | First of all, the F-8 Crusader was built by Ling Temco Vought. Vought later built the A-7 on it's own. I am a long enthusiast of the Crusader, and made a Viet Nam cruise with the "J" model in 1971 aboard the U.S.S. Hancock. I was in VF-24, the "World Famous Fighting Red Checkertails" My squadron was number 2 in Mig Kills at the time. Our sister squadron had the enviable honor of being number one in Mig kills. If anyone checks me out on this you will find that the bulk of Mig kills were made during the Viet Nam war with the F-8 Crusader. My previous sqradron was VF-101 in Key West, Fla. and I can assure you I took a lot of criticism from the Crusader folks when I attempted to educate them about the F-4.

david robinson , GA | All I ever see in the popular media in regards to the air war over Vietnam is the Phantom. The Crusader WAS the fighter as far as air superiority goes. Training with rear quarter weapons made all the difference in the world with the Crusader's ability to kill MiGs. Never said is the fact that the original TopGun cadre to train phnatom crews in ACM were all Crusader pilots. Ted Swartz, an A-4 jock who bagged a MiG 17 with a Zuni was formerly with the F-8 community. Also- the F8U-3 was a better airplane than the F-4. Damn politics. 04/08/2001 @ 16:03 [ref: 2031] |
Juan Martin Poggi Buenos Aires, OTH | The L.T.V. F-8 Crusader is the first supersonoc carrier borne fighter in the world
The crusader established many records on speed and fliught performance since its first flight inmarch 25, 1955
Thought nicknamed in its early days \"the lasrt Gunfighter\"
the later version , F-8E became a powerfull fighter bomber having wing pylons whit a capacity of maximum 4,000 pounds of external stores.- 04/01/2001 @ 23:36 [ref: 1958] |
