walt \"breeze\" mackey , NJ | one thing about the "thud", it would "walk-away" from any airplane under 1000 ft..........f-4's needed to go to AB to keep up with us. It didn't matter what was hanging under the wing....In full AB it would just keep on accelerating till' the tanks ran dry, if you let it. F-15 drivers at "Red Flag" also found out in the late 70's....early 80's that they weren't "the fastest guns in the west"............ 07/27/2007 @ 14:05 [ref: 17307] |
Kyle Kirby Granite Falls, NC | Just wanted to comment that the Sabre Society of NC has F-105B-5RE 54-0107. She was the ninth pre-production prototype and the climatic test bird. Soon we will put her back into her arctic scheme that she wore in Alaska. The Thud is a very heroic bird and I am very glad we have one. She resides in Hickory, NC at the Hickory Regional Airport.
Cheers,

Wes Sainz Tampa, FL | The F-105 claimed by the Clearwater Air Museum now sits, as of 2001, in two pieces on a scrub lot surrounded by mangrove trees and abandoned waterfront shacks. Not a good fate for such a noble aircraft. 02/28/2002 @ 16:41 [ref: 4424] |
