Charles F. \"Chuck\" Stapleton,Jr. Big Stone Gap, VA | 14 Mar '61 to 13 Mar '65. Stationed at Glasgow AFB, MT. 13th. FIS from 27 Feb '62 to 13 Mar '65. At 1230 on 27 Feb. '62 I stepped off the train and it was -48 below 0. The next day it was -52 below. I really enjoyed working on the F-101B in the "A" Flt. I was TDY several times especially in '64. The Hughes Tech. Rep. and I set up the new IR system while the rest of the shop did training as they said I was too short in time to be of benefit. I learned a lot by doing hands on. I loved the work and the assignments I just didn't like the cold weather. I served in the Squadron Mail room for about 6 months in '63 I think, I went TDY to Tinker AFB for 5 weeks doing Supersonic Noise testing for the FAA in '64 (loved that assignment), 2 TDY's to Tyndall AFB. I loved the Air Force and the aircraft work.
P.S. Our son is a Lt. Col. in the USAF and a class of '97 USAFA grad. with his first Squadron assignment. He flies the KC-135R and I remember the first KC-135A's sent to Glasgow AFB for the SAC Wing. 02/10/2015 @ 06:25 [ref: 68924] |
Jose Cintron Trenton, FL | To Ken Carden and Ken Brown. I was stationed at Charleston in 1967-69 when I tranfered to Hill AFB in Utah.I was Flight Chief of "B" Flt and Msgt Coy Dykes was the Line Chief. We just left Charleston from this years reunion and hopefully next one will be in April. I spent 22 years in the AF and the best of time were with the 444th. I was there from early 1957 to early 1960 when I went to Puerto Rico (F-86D's and F-86D's. Charleston was by far one of my best duties while in the AF, many happy memories. I hope you both have the same kind of memories. My E-Mail jcint@mindspring.com, with the Lord's grace will see each other in 2015. GOD Bless

Dean Werley Wimberley, TX | Flew the F-101B VooDoo at Dow AFB, Maine, from 1960 to 1964, and at Kingsley Field, Oregon, from 1966 to 1968. Nice airplane but had a 'pitchup' problem. 02/09/2013 @ 19:45 [ref: 67566] |
Bill Inman Medford, OR | I was a Weapons System Specialist (MG-13)from 1961 to 1964 at Hamilton Field, California. The Voodoo could be flown in Vis-Ident mode below, to the right and behind a suspected enemy aircraft and the "bogey" would be lit up by the 10,000 candlepower light on the left side of the aircraft. We installed IR, Infrared detection that could be used if RADAR jamming was effective. 07/04/2012 @ 20:54 [ref: 63071] |
